I see you trying, but I don't really think this went out too great.

Let's talk gameplay first. I think this is probably the strongest part of the game. move your mouse to hit the red bars sliding down the strings. Cute, easy, simple. In terms of what I'll guess you're going for, this is an acceptable kind of simple gameplay. Maybe a little repetitive, but none-the-less fun for a little bit.

Alright, now the sound quality is also good. But how you presented it is why this game isn't good or very enjoyable. I dislike how my mouse activates each string as I move across. If there was no game to this and it was just a guitar string sim or whatever, that'd be fine. But when it's mixed with gameplay, it makes a mess of sound just to get to the red bar which plays another sound and it just ends up this mushy sound wall that isn't pleasant at all.

So, here's a couple thoughts that could possibly move things better. Possibly change the strings to different pitches that would create a chord, so as you're moving along, instead of making a jarbled whatever, you're actually making some kind of music as you move along? Maybe with each red block you get, the chord changes, and boom. Now you have gameplay with nice sound that the player gets to make and feel a part of.

I think I see what you're trying to do, but the execution wasn't there. Though that said, this shouldn't be a scrapped idea. I think this could be something really fun with a bit more thought.

Fun little time waster! Art is good as always, gameplay is simple, straightforward, and kinda meditative? Brain feel happy when me get big point to spend for more big point.

I appreciate that it saves progress but dislike that I can't delete progress. I wanna play the game again and do that mindless grind again! It's no fun when I return to the game and I already have all the upgrades and I can finish in 5 seconds. No one is happy when I finish in 5 seconds.

I think just that quick little feature to reset the game would give this a little more replayability, otherwise, this is a super cool, short and sweet game!

Dezue responds:

Heyho, mastermuffin!
Hahaha Thanks for playing, I'm glad I made your brain happy XD
Deleting progress is something I haven't had on my radar so far tbh, but it's something I'll implement into all my games from now on - thanks to your and others feedback on this.
Let's end the 5 second finishers and make everybody happy XD
Stay funky, man!

I'm loving a lot of your games so far!

This is definitely a difficult one, and I can see how some people are really turned off by that. This game is horrifying, and I love that. It's startling and gets you worked up and I think it's great, because it feels like a jump scare when you mess up, but it's just you messing up. The full screen is so atmospheric and really well executed. Makes you feel really small and claustrophobic.

This game does not have a whole lot to it, so the fact that you can give so much impact from just a little game (of which I can't complete, still working on it) shows a lot of promise and resourcefulness which I really respect. Though, I don't feel any staying power from it. It's frustrating. Sure, it's fun and gives me a couple of yuks, but ultimately, I might come back and try to get further in, maybe show a friend, but I'm not going to remember this game very well. Compared to other games you've done, specifically Handulum, this is the biggest fall. With Handulum, it has such a unique and fun mechanic with challenging, yet not unfair feeling obstacles. I'll see that game on some feed somewhere, and I'll want to click on it again, just to see if I can still beat it. Even if I do manage to get through this game, I'm not looking forward to doing it again. It was after trying after over and over again, feeling like the only way I could go up was just more luck.

Overall, this is a very good experience, and I do recommend everyone try it at least a few times, jump when you hear the stomping, jump even further when you get attacked. It's not a bad game in that sense, but it doesn't grab, or feel like it has much value in that sense. But for bit over a day of work, this is incredible! And I can't wait to see your next game!

Great job, but minor details

Let's go ahead and start at the beginning of the piece. Really cool and really gives a good forshadowing to what is soon coming, but I wish you would drag it out a little bit before you went into the intro with the strings. It was just a little too much too soon. Milk out mysterious beginnings a little more. They just make the middle seem so much more intense.

Alright, now when you get into the "melody" which was hard for me to find which instrument had it, which has it's own affect to people, so I won't let it hurt any score, but you have this snare which actually bothered me to no end. A bit too loud and you need to use rolls a little bit more sparingly. They should be more of a gateway to the next phrase.

The spaces you used to quiet things down a little really made this song pop out and I really loved it. It gave it this wonderful feeling of contrast you don't normally see in songs.

So, just one more thing. I had a hard time with the quality, and it's hard for me to say that because quality can be blamed on many factors, such as money, speakers, programs, you name it. But one thing of the quality that was bad was the shortage of reverb. This is a song where (especially in the more quiet parts) a little resonance can go a long way in making more of an impact.

I have yet to even see if you have other things out, but might as well check because this song was overall really good with some small things that need some improvement. Good Work

Voltus responds:

Thank you for your feedback, although I dont really agree with your statement on the quality of the sounds. Every Instrument has at least some reverb or room to it and is generally out of a good sounding soundfont or sample library, I just didn't want to overdo it you know? If you are clustering everything together with reverb, the sounds don't stand out as I wanted them to. Maybe I also should have mentioned that this is my first orchestral/cinematic track ;)

Short, but sweet.

This loop is the kind I can actually listen to for a disturbing amount of time. Improv singing and rapping and what-not, but anyway, I'm a bit surprised at the 3/5 stars this has. The simplicity of the two major 7th chords (correct me if I'm wrong) and the background stuff behind those are well done and keep the song filled with melody. The bass is also groovy yet subtle with that groove. This actually gives it such a chill feel and I'm absolutely in love with it. I'm trying to come up with something wrong, but the quality of this song is so good and not to mention of how in flavor it is with my personal tastes. Great Job, bro.

This is really dark, man. I love the bass hits that have little predictability to them. The strings that hold the entire song really bring suspense to the darkness. I also really respect all of the weird things going on in the background.

And you could probably see it coming, I have just two problems. One is short and sweet. The loop is a bit sloppy. The strings that hold sound like they go out and then back in. It kinda sucks because it's held the entire length, but when it gets to the end of the loop, it just sounds bad. Number two is that it's repetitive. On the third listen of this song, I did a little experiment. I went ahead and just skipped around the song. I was pretty much making my own arrangement at that point. In reality, you could have made this song about 40 seconds long, and have the same song except for a couple of points.

Everything I say negatively, you must realize I'm being really picky with it because it's already really good. I am certainly not a believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" though, so that's why I think it can always be improved. Keep at it, bro

tripledigit responds:

Thank you very very much for being honest and giving genuine criticism and tips. I really appreciate it and will definitely keep the flaws of my previous works in mind when i create new songs so that I can continue to improve and produce the best possible tracks in the future.

So yeah, Jazz stuff. Woot
